Raj Barker


Raj is an inquisitive student + teacher of Yoga + The Class by Taryn Toomey with an obsession for all things nutrition + wellbeing. She's Australian born + raised, residing in The East Village, New York.

Raj completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine at Endeavour College of Natural Health, Sydney, + is a certified Yoga teacher with teacher trainings completed in Sydney, Byron Bay + New York City.

Her experience in the health + wellness industry includes private nutrition consultations, as well as group facilitation and she is a Health Coach for Integrative Doctor; Frank Lipman at his practice, Be Well, based in Flatiron, New York. She is a also a teacher at The Class by Taryn Toomey, a spiritually empowering fitness class based in NYC and teaches  weekly yoga classes at Lucent Yoga in Brooklyn + private lessons throughout New York. Raj has an innate curiosity for the healing power of food as medicine + her nutrition consults have a strong focus on plant-based food, as well as daily rituals to support the body's natural ability to heal + thrive. She regularly collaborates with Cook Space in Brooklyn and teaches Ayurvedic and plant based cooking classes with a strong emphasis on nutrition and wellbeing. 

One of the most pivitol points of Raj's health journey was being diagnosed with a type of thyroid autoimmune disorder called Grave’s Disease in 2013. Western doctors advised that she choose between either removing her thyroid altogether or partaking in radiotherapy. A student of Nutritional Medicine at the time, Raj confided in her lecturers + several holistic doctors + decided to take an alternative route in a personalized fruit-based detoxification. Accompanied with ongoing kinesiology, reiki, + tailored private yoga sessions, after just three months, her body showed no signs of Grave’s disease or any thyroid abnormality: a result that left her endocrinologist baffled! It was at this point that Raj experienced first-hand the magical duo of clean, high-vibrational food + spiritual exploration to achieve great healing + personal empowerment.  

Raj is trained to teach Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin + Restorative yoga classes + provides specific emphasis on breath with movement + alignment. Peppered with philosophy + coupled with inspiring music, she aims to deliver creative sequences that leave you feeling moved, nurtured + at home in your mind + body. A committed student of yoga + all aspects of holistic healing, Raj finds great joy in sharing the tools she has personally tried + tested to assist you on your path to optimal health.
